The Goal of this Personal Project was to look at the amtrak app that I know very well and have used a lot and see how to improve upon it and make it better.

Goals

  • Make the homepage more useful

  • Distribute the more important information through out the app

  • Shift some of the information that is linked to things on the app

  • Find compelling ways to optimize the app and its information

  • keep the app fast to go through and easy to use

First Iteration

Overview

For this iteration I was building off of the older Amtrak design and was focusing on the redistribution of all of the pages from the more tab and leave the accessory information in that tab.

I eliminated the home page so that because there was not much use for it before outside of ads & promotions which could be placed elsewhere.

I also redesigned pages that were offloaded to the web mobile version of the app so that they could better fit and be accessed in the main app

First I shifted the Most important information that was in the more pages to the forefront of the design

The Muli-ride pass that allows commuters to purchase a pack of rides during a week so they don’t have to purchase them each individually. Allowing easier access to this page

The USA Rail pass is an important option to be able to see before you begin to book your ticket incase you are trying to visite multiple location in a certain region.

The Service alerts page could be shifted to the forefront of the pages as well. these are essental service changes that will affect peoples routes

My next objective was redesigning pages that had been offloaded to the mobile website version of the app. Pages like the Multi-Ride pass information, Amtrak information pages, Member rewards page,

One of the things that I did is athat I used the Amtrak color profile/ Design system and I shifted kit around to give a new look as well as to highlight the buttons.

mainly using a light blue and a navy blue with accents of a deep red

Second Iteration

Overview

For this iteration I use a combination of my initial design and the new updated version of the Amtrak app

I focus on rebuilding a homepage that optimizes booking a trip, seeing any immediate service updates, and leaves space for promotional material

Shift around the the pages for better user journey through the app

update page layouts for better visibility and digestion of the information
